Turk's last-second bucket leads Magic to dramatic OT win over CHI

In a tight game throughout, where both teams made clutch plays and hit big shots, the Magic held a 110-107 lead in the final 10 seconds of OT, when CHI's Ben Gordon hit a clutch three to tie the game with about 6 seconds left; but HTurkoglu then hit a running pull-up jumper with 0.7 seconds remaining to stick a dagger into the Bulls (11-18) and their fans, as the Magic (22-11, 15-5 road) won their 4th game in a row 112-110.

Again, a great team effort by the Magic with six players in double figures, led by JNelson off the bench with 22 pts (8 of 15 FGs), 4 asts; RLewis led the starters with 19 pts (7 of 13 FGs), 6 asts; DHoward 17 pts (4 of 11 FGs), 22 rebs, 5 blocks, 3 steals; Turkoglu 17 pts (7 of 19 FGs), 5 rebs; and CArroyo (7 of 7 FGs), along with KBogans (4 of 7 3 PT FGs) 14 pts each.

The Magic once again survived a huge game from an opposing SG, as the Bulls' Gordon came off the bench and scored a season-high 39 pts (16 of 27 FGs); Luol Deng added 21 pts.

The statistical breakdown:

FGs... CHI 42 of 97 (43.3%) ORL 41 of 83 (49.4%) ORL 93, CHI 90

Just before the game started, the Bobcats traded C Primoz Brezec and F Walter Herrmann to DET for C Nazr Mohammed, which left them a man short for the game.

The Magic had five players in double figures, led by DHoward with 33 pts (11 of 16 FGs, 11 of 20 FTs), 18 rebs, 4 blocks; HTurkoglu 22 pts (8 of 13 FGs) 5 asts; JNelson 13 pts (6 of 6 FGs) 6 asts; RLewis 13 pts (3 of 11 FGs); and KDooling off the bench with 13 pts (5 of 7 FGs).

Magic misfire badly again in loss to MIL

For the Magic (16-7, 11-3 road), this game was virtually a carbon copy of the previous game against ATL, only this time the Magic shot even worse. The Magic started out slow, as MIL led throughout, then scored the first 12 pts of the 4th qtr to cut the MIL lead to two, only to fade in the last several minutes as MIL (9-12, 7-2 home) scored 25 of the final 38 pts in a 100-86 win to break a four game losing streak.

The Magic had four players in double figures, led by DHoward with 20 pts (6 of 13 FGs), 13 rebs, 5 TOs; RLewis 20 pts (7 of 18 FGs); HTurkoglu 18 pts (4 of 11 FGs) and KDooling off the bench with 14 pts (4 of 9 FGs).

MIL had five players in double figures, led by Michael Redd with 27 pts (9 of 17 FGs), 10 rebs. First round draft pick Yi Jianlian added 18 pts (7 of 11 FGs).

The statistical breakdown:

FGs... MIL 35 of 70 (50%) ORL 26 of 77 (33.8%) MIL 75 ORL 62
3 PT FGs... ORL 10 of 30 (33.3%) MIL 5 of 15 (33.3%)
FTs... MIL 25 of 36 (69.4%) ORL 24 of 39 (61.5%)
REBS... MIL 48 ORL 38
AST/TO... MIL 24/21 ORL 15/18
BENCH... ORL 23 MIL 21

Not one Magic player who played could make half their shots. Howard and Dooling combined to shoot 10 of 22 FGs; the remaining eight players combined to shoot an icy 16 of 55 FGs. The Magic have now lost three in a row and will look look to try and get something going at CHA FRI night.

New Orlando Arena Revealed

If you haven’t already seen and heard some of the details about the future home of the Orlando Magic; check out The Sentinel for this photo gallery to go along with this story.

I couldn’t be more excited! It looks like it’s going to be a hell of building; especially considering the new events center will be 800,000 square feet, more than double the size of the 367,000-square-foot Amway Arena, and have everything you could want or imagine in an arena.

I personally enjoyed John Denton’s write up on the new arena more than The Sentinels. For Denton’s story, click here.

Magic/Bucks preview

The Magic (16-6, 11-2 road will try to snap their first losing streak of the season tonight against slumping MIL (8-12, 6-2 home). MIL is coming off a 93-90 loss at SAC, their 4th loss in a row. After starting the season 7-4, the Bucks have lost 8 of their last 9.

The probable starting lineup for MIL:

G... Michael Redd (24.0 ppg, 5.3 rebs)
F... Desmond Mason (8.1 ppg)

MIl is averaging 95.6 ppg, while allowing 100.5 ppg. ORL is averaging 103.9 ppg, while allowing 98.4.

Injury update: Rashard Lewis may miss the game because of muscle spasms in his neck that prevented him from practicing this morning. According to Lewis, it's been bothering him for a few days and seems to be getting worse, and it will be a game-time decision. If Lewis can't start, James Augustine will make his first start of the season with the Magic.

The Magic have beaten MIL 3 games in a row and 5 of the last 6 games, and are 5 pt favorites over the Bucks (www.pinnnaclesports.com).

Dooling, who had been leading the NBA in FT%, missing only 1 of 40 FTs before tonight, missed 2 of 4 FTs against ATL.

The statistical breakdown:

FGs... ATL 35 of 82 (42.7%) ORL 29 of 73 (39.7%) ATL 75 ORL 69
3 PT FGs... ORL 11 of 31 (35.5%) ATL 5 of 11 (45.5%)

REBS... ORL 45 ATL 43
AST/TO... ATL 19/8 ORL 18/19

NBA.COM Power Rankings

At the quarter point of the season and 13 road games it's all well deserved. The coaching has been great, Howard has reached a new level, Nelson is playing up to his new contract, Lewis has created the floor space he was signed to do, and Turkoglu and Bogans have resurrected their careers by playing the smart basketball they were always capable of.

Even the bench is starting to shape up after the Ariza trade. Boston is on pace to wear out their Big 3. Van Gundy is keeping the starting front court minutes in the mid 30's and has added Evans, Redick and a few minutes for Cook to the mix.

Although they haven't won a playoff series since Shaq quit Orlando, this team has a legitimate shot to win the East this year. They need to continue to improve, and learn to beat Detroit. They also have over $10 million worth of expiring contracts to make a February trade.

Go Magic!

Howard is East player of month

NBA honors Howard as East player of month -- OrlandoSentinel.com

None of this is a shock anymore, simply well deserved. Howard also has more dunks than 25 teams combined, and has more than double the dunks of the #2 dunker in the league.

And he is still 4 days shy of his 22nd birthday!

Orlando Magic C Dwight Howard was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month after demolishing the competition since the start of the season. He averaged 23.8 points on .618 shooting and a league-high 15 rebounds. The Magic benefited from Howard's start, tying the San Antonio Spurs in wins for the month with 14. He led the NBA with 15 double-doubles and scored 30 or more points six times, including a career-high 39 in a 110-94 victory Nov. 28 against the SuperSonics in Seattle. "We're a total team; it's not just me," Howard said. "Every night we have got to get a contribution from everybody on our team."

Magic stun GS in OT thriller to move record to 16-4

In a game that the Magic (16-4, 11-2 road) led throughout, only to see GS (9-8. 3-5 home) come back late in the final qtr to take a 3 pt lead, the Magic were able to send the game into OT in a heart-stopping final minute of regulation, and took over in the OT for a fantastic 123-117 victory over a team that had won 9 of its previous 10 games.

Seven players scored in double figures for the Magic, including three players with over 20 pts. JNelson, after an awful game against the Lakers, had a great game with 22 pts (9 of 18 FGs), 11 asts, 8 rebs, and just 1 TO; KBogans also had 22 pts (9 of 12 FGs); RLewis 20 pts (7 of 14 FGs); DHoward 18 pts (5 of 10 FGs), 23 rebs, 7 blocks, but 9 TOs; HTurkoglu 17 pts (7 of 21 FGs); MEvans off the bench with 11 pts, and KDooling also off the bench with 10 pts.

The statistical breakdown:

FG... ORL 45 of 94 (47.9%) GS 42 of 111 (37.8%) ORL 101 GS 93
3 PT FG... ORL 11 of 25 (44%) GS 9 of 40 (22.5%)
FT... GS 24 of 31 (77.4%) ORL 22 of 32 (68.8%)
REBS... ORL 54 GS 54
AST/TO... GS 28/15 ORL 28/19
BENCH... ORL 24 GS 24

Magic comeback falls just short in PHO

The Magic (14-4, 9-2 road), trailed by 15 at the end of the first qtr and by 10 at the end of three qtrs and were forced to play catchup in the fourth against PHO (12-4). The Magic nearly made it all the way back, but RLewis's missed 3 pt FG with under 5 seconds remaining, which would have given the Magic the lead, missed the mark and the Suns added FTs to win 110-106, sweeping the 2 game season series.

Three players scored in double figures for the Magic: DHoward once again led the way with 30 pts (13 of 19 FGs), 23 rebs, but 8 TOs; HTurkoglu 25 pts (9 of 17 FGs), 8 rebs, 6 asts; and RLewis with 18 pts (6 of 19 FGs). JRedick led the effort off the bench with 8 pts (3 of 5 FGs). PHO had better balanced scoring, with six players in double figures lede by Raja Bell with 20 pts. Steve Nash added 15 pts, 14 asts and Amare Stoudemire 19 pts, 10 rebs.

The statistical breakdown:

FGs... PHO 43 of 87 (49.4%) ORL 40 of 87 (46.0%) PHO 93 ORL 90
3 PT FGs... ORL 10 of 34 (29.4%) PHO 7 of 17 (41.2%)
FTs... PHO 17 of 25 (68%) ORL 16 of 25 (64%)
REBS... PHO 48 ORL 43
AST/TO... PHO 29/13 ORL 21/17
BENCH... PHO 24 ORL 20

Nice effort by the Magic to come back in the last qtr and nearly take the lead late, but as it turned out, the Magic dug themselves too big a hole to climb out of. Magic have SAT off, followed by two tough back-to-back games against LAL and GS.
