Cap management looks very bright.
A talented but confusing, ball-hogging cancer is gone.
We get to watch 3 20 year olds grow up with Howard, Darko and Ariza under 21.
There is room to resign Battie, Stevenson, Ariza, Diener a top-5 pick and a full MLE free agent.
My biggest regret is Garrity is still here.
2 weeks ago I had no hope for playoffs next year. If it weren't for the coach I would now be very optimistic.

From ESPN:
For the Magic, the trade will provide salary cap relief to a franchise that can now go further beneath the cap than any of the league's 30 teams in the summer of 2007 when a bumper crop of free agents will be on the market, giving Orlando several options in figuring out how to rebuild around 20-year-old power forward Dwight Howard.

One more ugly, if not currently important, thought.
The Magic have now effectively traded T-Mac and a first round draft pick for Darko, Arroyo & Ariza.

Damn,i feel like i got played, garrity should have gone in the deal! Other than that,YES,YES,YES,YES,YES,YES,YES!!!!!!! Steve's gone we can finally have an unselfish, low turnover prone, hustling and always into the game type team, and most important guys that wanted to be here from day one,and are coachable! It's gonna be fun to see keyon making dwight better, when was the last time we saw a magic point guard get double figure assists, well i think we have two candidates in keyon and arroyo, even though pats still here,at least he'll give us everything he has and hit some three's,maybe keyon and arroyo can make pat a little better too, steve's passing has never been great!

I think now the magic are gonna be the surprise second half of the season team,we still have about 10 loses to go before we're eliminated,so we still can make some noise, grant & turk going down just sums up the season, and doesnt help one bit,but the bright side is,i think everybody is gonna be pleasantly surprised at how much a unselfish point guard that wants to make poeple better, makes us a better team, what you'll see is keyon and arroyo having high assist totals and dwight having more twenty point games, and thats what we all want, for dwight to be able to dominate, but not have to always create his own shot on the block,b/c right now we all know all dwight has on the block is a killer drop step, and little hooks with either hand, the addition (now being able to play keyon & arroyo major minutes)by subtraction (trading steve)is automatically gonna make us better!

I decided to rejoin you guys. What can I say, I missed you. No hard feeling I hope; I was just waiting for this trade to go though because it's been bothering me and pretty much killing the team. Overall, I like the trade as well. werdevos pretty much summed up my thoughts; the high point is with 2007 being the biggest and best free agency crop in God knows how long and now the Magic will have more cap space than anyone in the league that summer. The WORST news of the deal is the part about Pat Garrity STILL BEING ON THIS TEAM! I mean really, as broken as that guy looks on the court, why can't he get hurt? That guy pisses me off more and more each game, and it makes me hate B Hill that much more because of how much he plays him. Still, we're going to have a nice young core of players. It should be exciting, especially if Brian Dumbass Hill ever decides to play the young guys. I guess this would be a good time to express my thoughts on last nights game. It was pretty much the worst coaching I've seen all year long. He put in and stuck with all the wrong player combinations and played some players way to much. We did show life when Darko and Arroyo were in the game, but of course their playing time was less than it was on Detroit almost. I know, B Hill says "they don't know the plays yet", so that is why they might not play as much. Well tell me this Brian, does any of the other guys on the Magic know these plays? Because I haven't seen any semblance of an organized offense out there, so maybe these plays are a mystery to some of the too... With that said, and how piss poor B Hill is, they can really use a playground style player like Arroyo running the offense and dishing the ball, especially as long as Brian Hill is the coach. Arroyo needs to play... It was also obvious that Darko can play. He's a lot bigger than I pictured him. He played solid defense, and once he shakes the jitters I'm sure he'll look for his offense more. My only concern is if Hill is actually going to play him, because the only reason he saw 3 minutes was because Kasun picked up 3 fouls in 60 seconds. Damn I hate Brian Hill right now...

From the NY Times:
"It is possible that both Francis and Ariza will be playing for their new teams tonight. Orlando is in East Rutherford to play the Nets. The Knicks have a home game against the Miami Heat. If both teams waive the usual physical examinations, Ariza and Francis could cross the Hudson River in the next few hours and be fitted for their new uniforms by tip-off."

From someone named "Preacher Man" on the TrueHoop comment thread about the trade:
"I love the part of the NY Times article about Otis changing the trade this morning. Otis Freaking Smith...."oh by the way Zeke - I don't want ANY junk players from your team, only a 20 year old former starter and expiring contracts - so no thanks on Mo Taylor." OTIS FREAKING SMITH is a better GM than ZEKE...."
I'd like to add that I'm proud of Otis for not F***ing things up so far. It may be the highest compliment a Magic GM has been worthy of since DeVos kicked Pat Williams upstairs.

I'm just wondering what BH is going to do with Penny.
I know it' just salary cap stuff, but I'm very pleased he's back to the old nest. He was the reason I became a Magic fan back when I was 10, 11 years old. He'll always be my favourite player, probably.
Other than that: This zillionth rebuilding plan better be the good one. We got major salary cap space that's best use in 2007, which makes me wonder what the hell is gonna happen next season. This season's lost, and now the organisation officially gave up this one.
I'm anxious because there's potential now, but the way this team's been handling potential still makes me worry.
Losing Steve-O isn't a disaster, anyway. Neither is keeping Garrity (for some reason I keep liking him). Anyway, the future does look bright, but I'm not all too confident, considering how our luck has been these last couple of seasons, and how freaky this organisation has acted in the past.
Is there anyone who can post a list of the 2007 free agents maybe?

Mathieu,
To this day I believe the Devos family worked with the Sentinel to poison the fans on Hardaway. He was young and unhappy with how he was being blamed for the teams inability to surround him with enough talent after Shaq left but he really got slammed by the team and the Sentinel on the way out of town.
This time around he'll never show up. Expect them to either cut him, or allow him to stay at his home in Houston recuperating for the rest of his contract.
If they do make him play he can tell them stories about the old days. Like the time he called a players only meeting and Horace, Nick & Dennis agreed it was time for Coach to go...

Yes, Otis freaking Smith. Nothing wrong with Ottis Smith. I love how everyone thinks because a GM was a former great player that he should make a good GM. Isiah has obviously proved that one wrong. Too bad this isn't 1996. Back then a pairing of Grant Hill and Penny Hardaway would be pretty awesome wouldn't it?

I don't have much time and have to run. Good deal and good job Otis. I appreciate Introvert316 coming back. We missed you, too.

I'm happy with the trade also! Now, Coach Hill will finally be forced to use a different starting lineup and bench rotation, instead of the same one that has led to 11 losses in 12 games. Hill was just too stubborn to make changes on his own.
I'm happy with the young talent we have on the team, along with the cap space now. These last two trades should lead to good things for the Magic for the rest of this season and beyond. I'm not expecting the playoffs, but to wind up with 35 wins would be a good finish.
Welcome back, introvert316!

Glad ya back intro, hopefully ariza can play tonight,b/c vince and richard's size is gonna be difficult to handle without him,and Kristic cant be able to do what he wants, play tough d,and share the ball, and the magic can steal one tonight, even losing grant & hedo, deshawn can start at the three, with keyon and arroyo in the backcourt,or keyon and deshawn in the backcourt and start ariza!

Yes!! the franchise is outta here, only wish garrity could have left town with him, but oh well, look at the valuable cap space we clear from this. I'll bet Hardaway and Hill never even come face to face this year. They say that they have forgiven and forgot, but i don't know.. We got a nice solid foundation of young talent that hopefully will be around for a while and grow together, now if we only had a real coach to help develop all this young talent. If it were my decision, i'd consider making GHill a player/coach the way Tree Rollins was for a short time, that way he would have more input than just the BSHill way of doing things.
Welcome back Intro316, its great to have you back..

I caught Whit's interview with Hill. Could he have looked less thrilled? He was acting like there is a lot of pressure on him now and he's not enjoying himself.
I really like when Whit twisted the knife and asked if either Darko or Arroyo would play meaningful minutes tonight. Whit was probably as tough as an employee is allowed to be.

Is there a more flopping team than NJNets tonight, jeeez, i'm surprised they aren't flopping when the ref runs by one of them, that is such pussy basketball... And what the hell does garrity bring besides the occasional 3? I want to gouge my eyes out whenever i have to look at him on the court...
