Seattle to visit Magic Friday night

The Magic and the Sonics have one thing in common... both teams were expected to be serious playoff contenders this season, but instead are both having terribly disappointing seasons. The Sonics are 21-34, and despite a win at Atlanta Wednesday night, have lost 8 of 10. The Magic are 19-34, and have lost 8 in a row and 12 of 13.

The Sonics fired new coach Bob Weiss earlier this season, but Bob Hill hasn't fared much better. The Sonics were involved in a 4 team trade Thursday, acquiring Earl Watson and Bryon Russell while losing Reggie Evans and Vitaly Potapenko. Ray Allen (24.8 ppg), and Rashard Lewis (21.2 ppg) are having nice years. Luke Ridnour (11.7 ppg) also contributes. The Sonics do not play good defense, as evidenced by the fact they have given up 106.7 ppg this season. But they also average 101.6 ppg, compared to the Magic's 92.8 ppg.

We should have a nice crowd at TDW tonight, as a lot of tix have been sold since the Magic acquired Darko and Carlos Arroyo. How long before the "we want Darko" chants start tonight? Will BHill finally get a clue and play Darko, since we do have a lot invested in him and he needs to play after rotting on the bench for 2 and a half seasons in Detroit, or will Hill go with Garrity as he has been doing? Don't expect to see GHill or Hedo in action due to injury.

    I like that we all repeat the investment in Darko until it all sinks in. If Hill does not give Darko meaningful minutes, I will break the brand new TV set and ship it to him as a souvenir.

    We really better see Darko in the game tonight. And I don't mean like for 3 minutes when Howard or Kasun pick up a few quick fouls. We all know Pat is going to get his minutes no matter what. I don't know what kind of deal him and B Hill have. But after listening to B Hill defend a pretty bad player like Garrity, I don't know what to think. The fact of the matter with Pat is he isn't apart of our future. He's old and broken. He was never that good to begin with. The point I like the most from some of you guys in the previous post was how this team is still losing. We've lost 12 of 13. It doesn't get any worse, so let Darko play! If not, I might join Matt in putting something through my big screen. I've tried to find positive spin, if B Hill keeps doing what he is, we'll land the #1 pick this year. Ha-ha... But, I can't convince myself, because we have a top project on our bench right now that needs this time right now.

    Here is a comment from Hill why he didn't have a wider rotation:

    "We had lineups out there that we could only run four or five plays all night ... and to put another guy out there that really didn't know what we were doing would've been extremely difficult."

    I am curious though how that doesn't apply to Arroyo, whom at PG had to be well acclaimed to the system in order to be able to play?

    With no credit to brian hill,i expect a win tonight,we'll get a even better effort at home,we should've beat jersey but freethrows and turnovers were hard to over come,i think even with playing pat WAY TO MANY MINUTES,we still can win if we do the little things,like making your freethrows and protecting the ball,hopefully we'll be able to do that,and at the same time force seattle to turn it over and get some fast break's tonight,i think we're gonna see a team thats tired of losing and its gonna come together tonight,if hedo plays i dont think it will be close,the magic could win by ten or more,but if we're short handed again it'll be closer,but magic still win!

    Brian was refering to Arroyo not knowing the plays. The funny thing is Arroyo is the type of PG that is going to make Brian Hill look good, but it's going to have nothing to do with Hill's plays. Like I said before, I really don't think any player has much of a clue on what Brian is trying to do on the offensive end. Of course having a guy like Francis out on the court pounding the ball most of the time didn't help things. Tonight should be a fresh start. I expect the Magic to win. So I'm pretty much right with bigfigure on tonight's game.

    Yeah i agree,when both trades were made it was on a two game north east trip,none of the new guys really got a chance to practice or play on our home floor,so coming back home with our new team will be like a fresh start,the guys can actually play in front of their home crowd,this will be keyon's first start at home without steve in the shadow's,arroyo and darko get a chance to play at home,and trevor ariza gets to start his magic career at home tonight,it kinda feels like the season is just starting for us,kinda like pre-season for them with so many new players and new roles,and having to learn each others game's,so we'll have to be a little easy on the guys for the most part,and the fact that seed's 5-8 all hold 27 wins,means if the magic can start playing well now,they could easily make the playoffs,and not just the 8th seed!

    As Big Figure has mentioned before, the nights that the team is winning, the players are figuring it out on the fly. I expect a Magic win tonight, as well.

    Your right BF about cutting the new blood some slack tonight, i'm sure it will take a game or two to get settled into the Magic way of doing things, and figure out that bhill is a moron. But i'm really excited about tonights game, it'll be great seeing the new talent get a chance to play... and if garrity plays more that 5 minutes i'm gonna break my old POS 27' tv, and then explode myself...

    Big Figure... I give you credit; you're a real optimist saying that if the Magic play well from here on out that they still have a chance for the playoffs.

    The Magic trail PHI by 7 games for the last playoff spot going into FRI night and would have to finish at 21-8 to get to 40 wins. So not only would the Magic have to play well, they would have to go on a real tear (in spite of Coach Hill also).

    I'm looking forward to a big Magic win tonight!
