Game Day Preview

ORLANDO MAGIC at DETROIT PISTONS
Sunday, Jan. 31. 6:00 p.m.
The Palace of Auburn Hills
Auburn Hills, MI

Following their clash with the Hawks at home, the Orlando Magic will fly to Detroit for a battle with the Pistons on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET. NBA champs in 2004, runners-up in 2005 and six consecutive Eastern Conference Championship series appearances from 2003-2008, Detroit has dealt with several key injuries, coaching changes and a revolving roster over the past two seasons. Unlike previous years when Dwight Howard and Co. had to contend with Rasheed Wallace and Ben Wallace on the inside and Chauncey Billups on the perimeter, the Magic know this is not the same Pistons team of old. In their last meeting on Nov. 6 at Amway Arena, Howard powered his way to 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Jameer Nelson and Matt Barnes each posted 18 points in an impressive victory. Vince Carter (sprained ankle) and Rashard Lewis (suspension) did not play in that game. Since their defeats in the postseason against Detroit in 2007 and 2008, the Magic seem to always want to prove they do not fear the Pistons in any way.

The Magic have won just 1 of their last 11 games in Detroit which illustrates the struggles the Magic have had with the Pistons over the years.

Coach Van Gundy will coach the Eastern Conference All-Stars should the Magic win tonight.

Hopefully, the Magic turn things around tonight against their nemesis and keep their strong momentum from winning 5 of their last 6 games.
