Excellent find, WeRDevos. I always thought that Doc Rivers was overrated as a coach, but when I remember what he did with a bunch of no names on his first year in Orlnado, and since the shortcomings were not that obvious I was, and still am, hesitant to label him as a bad coach.

I was never a fan of Doc. I never thought he was "bad", but I never thought he was a good coach either. He's reminds me of Brian Hill in the sense that he knows what to say to the media and to sell himself. But when it comes down to reaching players, helping them develop, using the right players, and calling the right plays, I think he's a little on the clueless side.

    FUN FACTS
The 99-00 team were "no names" at the time. And yes the surprised many people around the league. Yet, take a look at that roster today and see what kind of talent he had to work with. Did Doc do anything "special"? Or did our on the floor coach and leader Darrell Armstrong run the show?

Here's the roster. It just looks like a team of unselfish players that were hard workers and didn't like to lose.

    John Amaechi
    Ben Wallace
    Bo Outlaw
    Ron Mercer
    Darrell Armstrong

    Michael Doleac
    Pat Garrity
    Monty Williams
    Corey Maggette
    Chucky Atkins

    Derek Strong
    Johnny Taylor
    Matt Harpring
    Chauncey Billups
    Anthony Johnson

Great find, WeRDevos. The Magic hired Rivers without any coaching experience whatsoever. I think they were banking on his communication with younger players to be his strong suit. It worked for a while, but then his lack of experience and knowledge came through.

I also remember before he was initially hired here, that he was a member of the San Antonio Spurs broadcast team. And supposedly good friends with Tim Duncan, and he allegedly claimed he could help influence Duncan into accepting the Orlando offer. But, as it turned out, David Robinson had a little more influence, and all we got was a rookie coach.
