Chicago Mercury News

What they're saying about the Magic in Chicago:

KRT Wire | 01/08/2006 | No secret, Bulls must deal a guard: "DOUBLE DRIBBLES

Grant Hill is out again, this time with a groin strain. With him raising the possibility of retirement when his contract expires after next season, several people around the league are saying the going-nowhere Magic should deal Hill and start rebuilding around Dwight Howard. That would include trying to move Steve Francis, who has seemed particularly disinterested of late. Hill said he wants to stay in Orlando, but with virtually no playoff success in his career, you'd think he'd like one shot at a playoff run with a good team. . . ."

I like to find articles from elsewhere just to get a pulse of what disinterested outsiders think of the Magic. That's why I posted it.

As for Hill's value, it is probably in his max value expiring in two years. Perhaps there is a max contract out there that expires in 3(+) years who could be an everyday player or even a star. That list includes Garnett and Pierce who both want new addresses.

To get rid of Steve-O (my opinion) the Magic would have to nearly give him away for something like expiring contracts and receiving draft picks. He has yet to prove he's a big enough winner to be worth what's owed him.

Given Jameers progress this year, I'd be willing to hand him the starting PG role for the rest of the year and see what he does with it. But I've never believed this team is better than 10th in the east.

I agree with Pete that Magic may not get a trade comparable to Grant's functional importance to the team. As for Steve, I think he may come out of the funk, eventually. It is myterious as to what is wrong with him. He was palying fine at the start of the season prior to his infamous chest injury. Given the overall situation, instaed of giving him for almost close to nothing, I suggest that we should stick with him for the time being.

As much as I like and respect GHill and everything he brings to the team, I feel his presence has been more of a hinderence effecting what little bit of team chemistry they have. The last 4 years have just been painful to watch. Just when you think the ankle fiasco is over, its the shins, then the newly-fashionable "Sports Hernia" I say, let him play out his contract, then, give him a job somewhere in "player development" at least he brings a little class to the organization..
