Game review: Magic (47-20) 109, Wizards (21-43) 95


After a horrendous first quarter that saw them fall behind Washington by 13 points, the Magic got their act together in the second quarter and scored 41 points to take a 6 point halftime lead and continued to extend their lead in the second half to lead by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter. It was the Magic's 8th win in a row, their best winning streak since March-April of 2006. Dwight Howard scored 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Magic.

The Magic fell behind 6-0 early but came back to take the lead and led 18-17 before the Wizards went on a 16-2 run to close the first quarter to lead 33-20 as the Wizards shot 65% in the first. The Wizards led 37-23 early in the second when the Magic went on a 38-18 run to close the half and led 61-55, as the Magic scored 41 second quarter points. The Magic extended their lead to 76-60 in the third, but the Wizards cut the lead to 85-76 late in the third before the Magic led 88-76 after three. The Magic put the game away in the fourth, going on a 15-4 run to open the quarter to lead 103-80 halfway with 6:04 remaining before cruising to the final.

    Things didn't look too well after the first quarter for the Magic, but wow, did they ever get their act together in the second quarter and were able to put the game away midway through the fourth quarter.

    It's funny, the last time the Magic won 8 in a row (April of '06), they were coached by Bryan Hill and didn't even make the playoffs, while now, they are championship contenders.
