Quote of the day

Some quotes from Stan Van Gundy in Monday's Sentinel regarding the backcourt rotation:

"I don't know what we're going to do. We're in flux."

"You would think by Game 35 you would have it figured out, but I don't."

"We may need a different mix again. Part of me says quit screwing around and go back to the guys (Nelson, Bogans) when you were 16-4. I just don't know right now."

I don't think that JNelson should be starting for a while, because he's been so inconsistent the last month; at least CArroyo can provide solid, consistent play manning the point. Nelson has proven 2 of the last 3 games that he can be a really good spark off bench.

As for SG, I think KBogans should remain the starter, with KDooling coming off the bench. Sometimes, I'd like to see SVG give JRedick some playing time like for the final few minutes of a quarter or half, just to get him in there and see if he could help the team with his long-range skills. On the west coast trip in early DEC, Redick did prove he can be effective scoring with limited minutes.

I can understand it being difficult for SVG to stick with a set rotation, because each of the players previously mentioned have weaknesses in their game; the players who can show the most consistency will see the most playing time eventually.

Was at the Rockets game way up at the top where it looks like ants playing basketball.

It's really obvious from up in heaven what's wrong.

    1. Move your damn feet on defense.

    2. Point Guards need to pass the rock.

    3. When DH is in the game pick and roll, pick and roll, pick and roll.

What we have instead is real ugly.

    1. There is no interest in playing defense.

    2. The guards spend too much on the dribble. They must have penetrated and dribbled out 20 times without passing the ball. Around the 3rd Keyon did this for the sixth or seventh time and the arena booed loudly.

    3. The lack of passing has become contageous. Whoever gets the ball is forcing a shot. There is no confidence on offense that if a player gives up the ball he will get it back once in better position.

The fourth quarter comeback was all about passing and giving the ball up for a better shot. 80% of the game was ugly one on five offense.

Every single guard against the Rockets sucked. Arroyo was at best mediocre, Nelson was awful, all Bogans does is hang around the 3 point line (not good when no one will pass), Dooling was worse than awful.

Only Evans seems to try, but he seems to bring a limited set of skills.

I wouldn't think twice about trading any or all of them for a set of guards that can excel at anything. Defense, shooting, or passing. None of our guards look like they are capable of any of it.

Interesting observations for the most part, but why do you say that JNelson was so awful against the Rockets? Statistically, his stats were decent... 20 pts on 8 of 13 FGs, 4 asts (I agree, not enough) and 1 TO in 32 mins, with a +/- of +7.

I'm sure on defense, he could have been better (like the whole team), but it's not like the Magic were THAT terrible on defense, as they surrendered 96 pts, and the Magic have a 15-3 record when holding the opposition to under 100 pts.

The Magic just barely lost those last two games at home, so it's not like we're being blown out, and that this is going to be a repeat of last year's collapse.

I remain optimistic that the team we saw go 16-4 the first 20 games will soon find that consistency and start winning again.
