Quote of the Day

ESPN - Hollinger:
"If you haven't seen Dwight Howard yet this year … holy moly. He is even bigger and more ripped than ever, and Orlando folks tell me he's shooting the ball more consistently after working on his touch in the offseason."

Wasn't shooting from outside what Hill did not want Dwight to do at all?

Yup! And you can see why SVG is a good coach,he actually coaches his players to improve on things they arent good at.

DH's has reminded me of David Robinson's physique and demeanor since his rookie year -- without Robinson's offense, experience or coaching.

But Robinson came into the league after four years of college and two years in the Navy. He was 24 as a rookie. This would be Dwight's Senior year and his first year playing for a competent coach.

Robinson got to start his NBA career under Larry Brown. Dwight Howard was 6 years younger and got to start with Johnny Davis and Chris Jent.

    Robinson was 24.3 points / 12.0 rebounds and 3.89 blocks in 1989.

With SVG running things I can (finally) see Dwight having a similar year.

There's no doubt that Dwight can have the kind of defensive numbers that David Robinson had in 1989. If he can improve his FT shooting to around 70% or so (he's shooting FTs much better this preseason) and continue to work on his short jumper, he could easily approach the 24.3 ppg that Robinson averaged that year. In fact, I think Dwight could even lead the Magic in scoring this year, even though Rashard Lewis averaged over 22 ppg last year with SEA, and is such a weapon from the outside. What an inside-outside punch if they both could average a combined 45-50 ppg.
