Rumor mill has Hill considering Spurs

Rumor mill has Hill considering Spurs
By Bill BegleyThe Daily Times
Published June 21, 2007Broadcast and published reports say that Grant Hill is considering signing with the San Antonio Spurs next month.Or the Phoenix Suns.Or the Detroit Pistons. The Raptors in Toronto? Well, maybe ...The 34-year-old is a free agent as of July 1, when his seven-year, $92 million contract with the Orlando Magic expires, and he reportedly told ESPN radio on Wednesday, during an interview on the Dan Patrick Show, that if pressed, he would prefer the Suns’ run-and-gun style over the less flashy approach favored by the newly crowned NBA champion Spurs.Hill got a chance to see San Antonio up close during the NBA Finals, working as an analyst for ABC television. In a report in the East Valley Tribune, an Arizona paper near Phoenix, Hill said the Suns will be one of the teams he will talk to when he officially becomes a free agent.“Best suit my style? Phoenix, and I think both teams are the two best teams in the league,” Hill reportedly said during the radio interview. “But if you want an answer, I’ll say Phoenix. ... Suiting my style would be an adjustment (with the Spurs).”Any focus on Hill has been blurred by rumors that the Suns are considering a deal to send Shawn Marion to Minnesota for Kevin Garnett and the drama that is the Kobe Bryant situation in Los Angeles.Of course, published reports have Hill, who will turn 35 in October, considering the Raptors — his wife Tamia, is Canadian — and saying that he also would consider a return to Detroit, where he played the first six years of his career.A seven-time All-Star, a rash of injuries derailed what seemed a career on the express route to the Hall of Fame. Hill missed 282 regular-season games in his first six years with the Magic. This season, however, he played 65 games and averaged 14.4 points per game.

I dont know where grant's gonna wind up,but more and more it seems like it might not be here. Also Chauncey Billups opted out of his contract, should the magic take a look into signing billups?

Wow... nowhere in any of that did I see that Grant is interested in re-signing with the Magic.

It may be a foregone conclusion that he's going to sign with another team now.

Whatever happens... best of luck to Grant.

I’ve always liked Billups. But Chauncey isn't the youngest of players. He also played very sub-par in the playoffs, especially against the Cavs, who have nobody to defend him. I have a feeling the Pistons are going to really overpay him, and they pretty much have to. But in the end, it'll be a contract like the Bulls dropped for Wallace, or like the Nets will give Carter. It's a shame to, they're basically getting paid based off of how they've played in the past, not how they're going to play in the future. Billups, just like Carter's, best years are all behind them. If the Magic or any team for that matter is going to drop big money, it should only be done for a player on the rise. Otherwise you end up with players on their way out, who nobody wants, and jacked up rosters like Miami and NY have.

And as far as Grant Hill goes, we don't need him. As of today we have Turk, Ariza, Redick, and Bogans who all play the positions he was playing last year. Good luck and good bye Mr. Hill. I'm looking forward to moving on from that era.

I think the Pistons will re-sign Billups, simply because they don't want what happened last year when a division rival in the Bulls signed free agent Ben Wallace away from the Pistons.

I have to agree with OVERWADED that Billups's best years are behind him. He could still be a very effective player for a couple more years, but isn't worth a mega-millions contract because he is entering the downside of his career; I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pistons sign him to one, though.

Yeah i agree also, the magic's youth as a team really doesnt need an old leader at the point guard and have to turn over the position to someone else later. Plus, not extending jameer this summer will put us in position to sign a top point guard next year if he doesnt pan out. Grant should go ahead and chase a championship,i think the suns would be a good fit for him,to me if he went with the suns it wouldnt be like jumping on a bandwagon either because the suns havent won anything.
